Auto and handheld navigation system. Performed User Interface Design, Usability testing, Research and Visual Design.
Areteworks competed with four design firms and was awarded to redesign the user interface and the user experience of Magellan's Auto and outdoor GPS devices.
Magellan wanted to gain marketshare in the auto navigation and handheld GPS markets. Areteworks' solution was to provide an award winning user interface and through user research assist in designing innovative propriety features. Their solutions, the Triton series (the 200, 300, 400, 500, 1500 and 2000) and OneTouch Magellan Maestro and Roadmate series required a user interface and user experience design that would distinguish their products immediately in the marketplace and convey an innovative, usable navigation GPS product experience.
Areteworks worked in unison with Magellan product, software engineers and executive management to create an entirely new GPS product by developing a complete, fully-functional graphical user interface, including multimedia applications and Bluetooth accessibility. Areteworks co-patented the invention and design for the OneTouch feature. By creating a simple and usable touch-screen user interface with exceptional screen graphics, Areteworks allowed Magellan to deliver PND and Handheld device products that were not only transformative but would give the company a unique visual interface style as it entered the competitive GPS market.
"This is the best UI in the GPS industry."
