Designing for children to deliver quality mobile user experiences

Most UI design for mobile devices is centered on the adult user experience, including ergonomic study and research. Adults, afterall, are the ones making the purchasing decisions so it would only make sense to cater to their desires and aesthetic tastes.

However, it would be beneficial to any UI and UX designer to explore child-friendly user-centered design and deliberate the practices and key aspects involved with using children for research and development purposes, as well as how to illicit worthwhile feedback. As the number of younger users of mobile devices increases, user research with children will become more prevalent, requiring different methodologies to be used to separate the normal enthusiasm of childhood from the sincere enthusiasm a youngster displays for the product.
