User Experience Design

Prototyping & Development
Medical Prototypes are pivotal to designing an intuitive user interface and speeding up the early stages of the design process. Our designers incorporate rapid prototyping techniques early in the product’s life cycle to assist in validating and assessing the initial concept designs. A fully developed prototype is then utilized as a usability assessment tool during both formative and summative usability testing sessions to gain user feedback on the interface and evaluate medical device safety and effectiveness against FDA requirements.
Formative Usability Assessment
Formative usability tests are conducted to identify strengths in the design and detect areas needing improvement. Using low-fidelity simulators to give the wireframes and user interface screens interactivity, Areteworks’ usability specialists use observational techniques and interviews to assess the usability of the prototypes. This allows us to solve potential usability issues early in the design process, and develop risk mitigation approaches and strategies that will shape the final user interface design.
Summative Human Factors / FDA Assessment
Our Human Factors experts conduct summative usability tests, as well as document for FDA requirements. Summative usability tests act as a final validation to ensure that the safety and use of the medical device has been addressed and that all FDA requirements have been met. Through our User-Centered Design process, we understand how to analyze the testing results and are able to iterate a design that meets government safety regulations.
